Meme of the Moment: Ten Movie Facts About Me…

Castor over at Anomolous Materials tagged me for the latest internet blogging meme. Basically it asks me to share ten bit of movie trivia about me and then to pass it on. I can’t promise this will be interesting, but here we go…

Darren thinking up movie trivia. Simpson-ness may have been exaggerated.

Congratulations to Culch.ie and Panti and all the other winners at the Irish Blog Awards 2010

Just retiring after the Irish Blog Awards. Congratulations to the rather fantastic Culch.ie, who claimed the top gong in our Pop Culture category and Ms. Panti, our fellow nominee who took away the Best Blog Post Award for “No More Mister Nice Gay”. It was nice to meet the lads from e-Dublin as well, who were being ridiculously professional filming the night (I may have given a confuddled three-second clip) and also just really cool guys. Good hussle. All are well worth a look if you have a moment.

Regular programming will resume tomorrow. Congratulations to the winners, thanks to the organisers and host (Mister Rick O’Shea) and it wouldn’t it be great if the Pop Culture category next year featured Bosco? If only for the acceptence speech. Awesome.

Thanks for a great night and congratulations to all the winners and nominees. Good hussle.

Non-Review Review: Julie & Julia

I am quite surprised to admit that I greatly enjoyed Julie & Julia. Probably more than I should have, on careful analysis. The film’s main gimick – juxtaposing Julia Child’s time in France with Julie Powell’s attempt to cook through the gigantic tome which resulted from Child’s time in France – never really comes together, but it manages to work on pure whimsy despite highly predictable subject matter (indeed, the thread running through Julie’s storyline kinda presupposes the end of Julia’s arc – Julie wouldn’t be cooking from her book if she didn’t succeed). It isn’t a masterpiece or a classic, but it’s a very watchable piece of moviemaking.

Can you smell what the blogger's cooking?

Kreativ Blog Award…

The good people over at Ross v. Ross (I reserve the right to call them ‘the Rosses’) have nominated the m0vie blog for a prestigious blogging award related thing. There is simply no accounting for taste. Seriously though, thank you guys, it means a lot coming from two guys who have been a pretty big influence on my blogging (seriously, their site is well worth a look – it’s great). Anyway, there are more details below. In the meantime, here’s a photo of Darren accepting his award:

Nicholas Cage IS everyone...
