Kreativ Blog Award…

The good people over at Ross v. Ross (I reserve the right to call them ‘the Rosses’) have nominated the m0vie blog for a prestigious blogging award related thing. There is simply no accounting for taste. Seriously though, thank you guys, it means a lot coming from two guys who have been a pretty big influence on my blogging (seriously, their site is well worth a look – it’s great). Anyway, there are more details below. In the meantime, here’s a photo of Darren accepting his award:

Nicholas Cage IS everyone...

Right, so this Kreativ Blog Awards thingie is actually quite sweet. And a little complicated. But mostly sweet. The details of the award are on-line here-wise for anyone wanting to read up (and verifying that I haven’t just given myself a fake award I made up myself). It’s a really sweet deal.

Anyway, the award comes with some terms and conditions. Like all good awards do. Did you know that the Academy has the first right of refusal to buy your Oscar at $0.01 if you want to sell it on? The more you know, eh.

So, terms and conditions:

1. Thank the person who nominated you for this award.
2. Copy the logo and place it on your blog.
3. Link to the person who nominated you for this award.
4. Name seven things about yourself that people might find interesting.
5. Nominate seven Kreativ Bloggers.
6. Post links to the seven blogs you nominate.
7. Leave a comment on each of the blogs letting them know they have been nominated.

Okay, so let’s do this thang. My seven blogs –  I don’t care if they’ve been nominated already!

01.) M. Carter @ the movies: Because she’s made of win. Because her review of The Usual Suspects got me thinking about that ending for perhaps the post I’m most proud of. Because she genuinely loves cinema with an incredible passion. Because there might be somebody out there who hasn’t yet found that blog.
02.) The Projection Booth: Run by Rob Humanick, this is one of the best places to go for discussion or insight into the world of film. His reviews are well worth a read, as are his reflections and his comments are always thoughtful (in fact, the comments sections of his posts – particularly concerning his review of Avatar – are some of the liveliest I’ve seen on a blog). Just ignore the new layout. It used to be cool.
03.) Andrew at the Cinema: Formerly Something Useful for Everyone, this blog manages to hit just the right notes between artsy fare and more traditional cinema – the kind balance which I wish I could manage. His insights into film are always well worth your time, and you know he one-ups us on film reviews, because he doesn’t just publish reviews, he publishes Useful Reviews.
04.) Fandango Groovers: A blog which cuts through the crap and offers straight, to-the-point movie reviews. His reviews tell you just about everything you need to know about the movie (and even throw in the trailer for good measure).
05.) 1001 Must See Movies: A high concept blog that deserves a nomination for its concept alone. Watch the 1001 movies you must watch before you die and then review them. Now that’s commitment to your art!
06.) Scannain.com: Some love for the Irish blogs on here. Very simply the most up-to-date posting of movie news in blog form on the Irish blogosphere and the place to go for your movie news fix.
07.) The LAMB Blog: This is admittedly a copout, but this is a meta-blog, a blog of blogs and the place to go to look for like minded individuals. Keep up the good work, guys!

Now, as for seven facts about myself, I can’t think of seven interesting ones, so here we go:

01.) I can do a decent Christopher Walken impersonation.
02.) I live in Ireland, but spent my childhood in Ghana.
03.) My irrational guilty pleasure movie choice is Demolition Man.
04.) Cillian Murphy once inadvertantly crashed my mate’s birthday party (and then got hussled at pool).
05.) Before we started going out, I once made my girlfriend late for dinner with Al Pacino… yes, she made Al Pacino because of me.
06.) I used to review movies in college, now I pay to see all the films I review.
07.) I have a law degree.

The more you know. Anyway, thanks again, guys!

Speaking of awards, the Irish Blog Awards 2010 are approaching and the nominations are now open, if you are looking to nominate an Irish blog for the work put in over the past year. They’re always interesting to see who is doing what on the Irish blogsphere.

  1. Great post. Never found you before. Lovely to taste you.

    • Thanks. I’m relatively new to this. It’s quite an odd sensation to get a comment from a blogger you were familiar with long before you started. It’s always been a pleasure to taste you.

  2. Demolition Man is an excellent guilty pleasure. So memorable, so quotable – beyond the brainless action, it actually tried to send a few messages and maintained a high level of creativity while building this totally ridiculous future world. All restaurants are Taco Bell.

Many thanks for the award. My official thanks to you will be posted on my personal site, Blog Cabins.

    • “He doesn’t know how to use the three seashells!”

Thanks, and you guys do a huge amount for guys like me and the other movie bloggers – and sometimes that gets taken for granted. I’ve been looking at trying to get more involved, so maybe I’ll take part in your next director’s chair session.

  3. Darren, I’ve only just started this here blogging thing myself, half way into my second month. Looking forward to joining the LAMB when I hit the big three.

Congrats on the award nominations, well deserved.

  4. Some really quality blog posts on this internet site , saved to fav. ckfbkcbaegfb
