288. 365 Dni: Ten Dzień (365 Days: This Day) (-#47)

Having survived the attempt on her life at the end of the previous film, Laura is to be wed to local mafia boss Massimo. However, the couple soon find their relationship tested, particularly with the arrival of a sexy gardener named Nacho. Laura flees Massimo into Nacho’s waiting hands, but quickly discovers that there is a far more sinister game at foot, and that not all of the players have revealed themselves.

At time of recording, it was ranked 47th on the list of the worst movies of all time on the Internet Movie Database.

A young sales director named Laura finds herself abducted by a Sicilian mafia don named Massimo. Massimo has decided that he loves Laura, and vows to make her love him as well. There is just one catch: if Massimo cannot make Laura fall in love with him within the next 365 days, he will set her free.

1999 was a great year for movies, with a host of massively successful (and cult) hits that would define cinema for a next generation: 10 Things I Hate About You, The Virgin Suicides, Run Lola RunElection, Cruel Intentions, Fight Club. The Summer of ’99 season offers a trip through the year in film on the IMDb‘s 250.

Thomas Anderson lives a fairly ordinary life; an office drone by day, a computer hacker by night. However, Anderson’s life quickly begins to fall apart when he finds himself drawn to a mysterious hacker named Trinity. It soon becomes clear that Anderson’s life (and his very reality) is not at all what it appears to be.

New Podcast! Scannain Podcast (2019) #19!

It’s time for the Scannain podcast!

This week, I join Jay Coyle, Grace Duffy and Luke Dunne from Film in Dublin to discuss the week in film. Jay has returned from holidays, but has still had the time to take in a variety of films including Steven Spielberg’s remake of War of the Worlds. Grace has enjoyed both Lady Macbeth and Short Term 12. Luke has watched a variety of films including Netflix’s Something Great, which is more like something so-so.

In film news, the Cannes Film Festival is underway. Closer to home, eight Irish film festivals have undertaken the 5050 x 2020 challenge to improve gender representation and transparency in how these festivals are organised and run. Alex Gibney is attending the new DOCS festival in Belfast in June. The Irish Film Institute is hosting their third Dark Skies season focusing on killer artificial intelligences.
