CinÉireann – Issue 8 (June 2018)

The latest issue of CinÉireann has just been released.

I’m delighted to have contributed several pieces to the magazine. You can read my take on:

As ever, there is some fantastic talent involved in the issue, and it is an honour to get a chance to write for CinÉireann. A massive “thanks” to the fantastic Niall Murphy over at Scannain for letting me be a part of it.

New Podcast! Scannain Podcast (2018) #16!

A somewhat smaller and more intimate Scannain podcast than previous weeks.

This week’s episode features the return of Niall Murphy on hosting duties, while I am joined by Alex Towers on the panel. The news includes coverage of the Fastnet Film Festival, The Image You Missed screening in New York and the latest appointments to the Irish Film Board. As usual, we also talk about what we watched, what is being released next week and what is currently in the top ten.

Check it out here, or give it a listen below.

55. North by Northwest (#74)

Hosted by Andrew Quinn and Darren Mooney and this week with special guest Niall Murphy, The 250 is a (mostly) weekly trip through some of the best (and worst) movies ever made, as voted for by Internet Movie Database Users. New episodes are released every second Saturday at 6pm GMT, with the occasional bonus episode between them.

This time, Alfred Hitchcock’s North by Northwest.

Alfred Hitchcock’s espionage caper finds Madison Avenue advertising executive Roger Thornhill caught up in a series of unlikely events involving the assassination of a prominent official and the attempt to recover some precious microfilm. Over his head and out of time, Roger ill have to think on his feet to stay one step ahead.

At time of recording, it was ranked the 74th best movie of all time on the Internet Movie Database.

CinÉireann – Issue 1 (November 2017)

Sin é Cin É!

Announcing CinÉireann, a new monthly magazine focusing on Irish film. It’s full of interesting and exciting news about Irish cinema, including films in development and on release, as well as long-form articles on everything from Irish filmmakers to co-productions to the changing multimedia landscape.

It is largely the work of the wonderful Niall Murphy over at Scannain, and I am thrilled to have provided two articles to the opening issue. (One of them is even the sort-of cover story, a piece focusing on the themes of The Killing of a Sacred Deer.) There’s a host of talent involved. You can read CinÉireann as a digital magazine directly. You can even subscribe and get future issues delivered to you directly.

51. The 250 Anniversary Special 2017

Hosted by Andrew Quinn and Darren Mooney, The 250 is a (mostly) weekly trip through some of the best (and worst) movies ever made, as voted for by Internet Movie Database Users.

This week, to mark the podcast’s one-year anniversary and passing the fifty-episode threshold, we decided to bring back as many of the guests from the first year as possible. So, joining Andrew and Darren on this podcast are:

We thought we’d take the opportunity to have a talk about the best and worst of this list, both in general and over the past year.
