Jameson Cult Film Club: L.A. Confidential & A Talk With Danny DeVito (JDIFF 2013)

This event was held as part of the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival 2013.

The Jameson Cult Film Club really is a film lover’s paradise, an excuse for the celebration of classic cinema in a unique environment that tries to bring classic movie moments to life – whether bringing the gospel sermon from The Blues Brothers to life, or having the face-huggers from Alien drop into the audience to the satisfying sound of screams. Launched two years ago at the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival, the club celebrates its birthday by hosting a very special guest at a celebration of one of their best films. Danny DeVito is this year’s guest of honour at the festival – hosting screenings of the superb The War of the Roses and Throw Mama From the Train. As such, holding a celebratory screening of L.A. Confidential was really the perfect fit for a cult film club event.

Photos from the Jameson Cult Film Club Screening of Jaws!

Sadly, I had to miss Tuesday’s Jameson Cult Film Club screening of Jaws, due to unforeseen circumstances. This was a shame, because I’d actually been really looking forward to it. The guys involved generally put on one hell of a show, and Jaws occupies a special place in my film fanatic’s heart. Still, I’ve got some photos of the event here, and they actually make me a little sadder that I had to miss out on it. Still, there’s always the next one.

You can still sign up to the Jameson Cult Film Club, and they run a film blog all year around. Signing up also allows you to enter the draws for free tickets to the event. Pop on over to their website to check it out.

Photos from the Jameson Cult Film Club Screening of Snatch in Galway…

The nice folks at the Jameson Cult Film Club were kind enough to send on these photos from their recent screening of Snatch in Galway. I have to admit I’ve a bit of a sentimental attachment to their unique (and wonderful) take on Snatch, as it was the first screening I attended. It’s also a movie that lends itself quite well to the fourth-wall-breaking celebrations that the guys do so impeccably. Anyway, here’s some photos from the first screening the gang have held in Galway. And here’s to many more.

Anyway, if you live in Ireland, and you want a chance to attend these screenings, just sign up for membership. The screenings are absolutely free, always a great time, and a great way to appreciate some truly classic movie.

Jameson Cult Film Club: The Silence of the Lambs

I had the pleasure, on Wednesday evening, of attending the Jameson Cult Film Club screening of The Silence of the Lambs. Any excuse to see Jonathan Demme’s masterpiece is worth taking up, but this was a wonderful night for two reasons. The first is that fact that although I am a huge fan of the film, I had never seen it before on a big screen. I’d only ever seen it on home media. The second reason is, as you might expect, that the guys and girls at the Jameson Cult Film Club really surpassed themselves in creating a powerfully immersive experience.

Photos from the Jameson Cult Film Snatch (Cork) Screening…

Hi,

Just a quick one to start the week. The guys over at the Jameson Cult Film Club sent on some photos from their Cork screening of Snatch last week. I wasn’t able to attend, but I hear it was a good night for all involved. Anyway, I thought I’d share the pictures, and remind any film fans reading that the tickets are given away free to members who join via their website, here. Anyway, I hope everybody who went along enjoyed it, and congratulations to the team on taking the show on the road.

Win! Tickets to the Jameson Cult Film Club Screening of Snatch, in Cork! (Closing Tomorrow)

I’m a big fan of the Jameson Cult Film Club. It’s a great excuse to celebrate cinema in a delightful unconventional way. Literally transforming the screening into a scene or location from the film,a s well as bringing key scenes to life, it’s a wonderfully awesome way to enjoy cult classics. So far, the screenings have – as far as I’m aware – been confined to Dublin. However, this time, the wonderful team behind the Jameson Cult Film Club are bringing Snatch to Cork. And we have four tickets to give away, to one lucky individual and three mates.

I’ll be closing the competition at 9am on the 23rd May 2012. Courtesy of the nice folks at the Jameson Cult Film Club, here’s an example of what’s in store.

Jameson Cult Film Club: The Blues Brothers

We’re on a mission from God.

– Elwood Blues

If ever a movie lent itself to the Jameson Cult Film Club experience, I think that The Blues Brothers is it. Hosted by the Jameson Cult Film Club as a way of celebrating cinema, the events see the team trying to bring the movies to life, offering a rather immersive experience. It’s a wonderful way to honour classic films, and I think that The Blues Brothers really embodies the best type of film for that sort of adaptation. After all, it is a movie so famed for its cult status and audience participation that John Landis and Dan Ackroyd actively recruited fans from screenings to appear in Blues Brothers 2000. Second to The Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Blues Brothers is a movie were the energy and exuberance really can’t be confined to the screen, and I think that’s why the team were able to do such a wonderful job with it.
