To 60 Seconds and Not Beyond: Closing Date Approaches for “Jameson Done in 60 Seconds” Competition

To take part in this year’s Jameson Done in 60 Seconds competition and be in with a chance of winning an Empire Award and attending the star-studded Jameson Empire Awards in March 2016,  simply choose a movie and distil it down to 60 seconds of cinematic essentials, just like putting all the best bits in a movie trailer. Then grab some mates, blag a camera (or smartphone) and upload your one minute masterpiece to www.jamesonempirediss.com before January 14th 2016.

One Irish entry will be chosen by an expert panel of judges including six-time Oscar nominated director Jim Sheridan, actor and author Eoin Macken, who just finished filming the Hollywood blockbuster Resident Evil: The Final Chapter along with actor Kevin Ryan, who stars in the new ABC series Guilt which is due for release in 2016, to represent Ireland at the Global Jameson Done in 60 Seconds final in London.

Last year’s Jameson Done in 60 Seconds winner Oliver Jones impressed the judges with his hilariously low-fi take on Ghostbusters, he collected his award live on stage at the Jameson Empire Awards.

Jameson Cult Film Club: Lethal Weapon

Watching a film with an audience really into it is a joyous experience.

For all that cinema is a social activity that takes place in a dark room with everybody staring in the same direction, there is a lot to be said about the communal nature of the activity. Bringing together a theatre full of people to celebrate a classic film is always a worthwhile activity. A lot of the films chosen by the Jameson Cult Film Club are familiar to audience members, but there is something to be said about actually experiencing a movie like Lethal Weapon with a room full of like-minded people.

Enter the Jameson First Shot Film Competition!

The guys at Jameson passed on details of their Jameson First Shot competition a few weeks ago. Here are the details for any budding film makers around the world looking to enter for a chance to work with some top-notch talent.

Jameson is on the hunt for the globe’s most gifted, undiscovered filmmakers with compelling stories to tell. Simply write an original piece of work, with the final draft being no more than seven pages in length. The story should reveal, with lightness of touch, the epic that is to be found in everyday experiences.  Closing date for entries is 1st February 2015. More information on the rules, including length and theme, can be found at http://www.jamesonfirstshot.com/.

Last year’s short films starred Uma Thurman and one of the winners just sold his first full length script. It’s a great platform for budding screen writers and this year is the first time it has been open to Irish entrants. Check out two of last year’s winners.

Trigger Street Productions and Adrien Brody Launch the Fourth Year of Jameson First Shot Film Competition

The Jameson First Shot film competition is back for a fourth year. In partnership with Kevin Spacey and Dana Brunetti of Trigger Street Productions, Jameson is on the hunt for the globe’s most gifted, undiscovered filmmakers with compelling stories to tell. Three talented winners will have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to have their scripts turned into short films and to direct Adrien Brody in the lead role. Not bad for a First Shot. The winning shorts will be premiered in LA with the acclaimed team in attendance.

Jameson Cult Film Club Screening of The Usual Suspects, Cork (22nd April) and Galway (29th April)!

Just as they did with Jaws and Snatch, the Jameson Cult Film Club are taking their screening of The Usual Suspects on the road. There’ll be screenings happening in Cork and Galway towards the end of the month, and – if you’re in the area – they come highly recommended as a celebration of classic film. (That goes double if you haven’t yet seen The Usual Suspects, which is one of the greatest modern noir films and probably director Bryan Singer’s greatest work.)

Indeed, the Irish chapter of the Jameson Cult Film Club launched with a screening of The Usual Suspects in 2011, making this something of a celebratory screening for the club. And a well-deserved one at that.

The full copy of the press release is below, but it is worth stressing that tickets to the event are completely free. They are assigned via a raffle, and you can throw your name into the hat at the Jameson Cult Film Club website. More details after the fabulously stylised poster below. (I kinda want one, but I worry I have no place to put it.)

JCFC screening of The Usual Suspects in Cork and Galway

The Jameson Cult Film Club is returning to Cork on 22nd April and Galway on 29th April for explosive screenings of the 1995 crime thriller, The Usual Suspects. Following on from the successful screenings of cult classics such as Jaws, Predator and Intermission, organisers are bringing the Jameson Cult Film Club experience back on the road

These free events are not just your typical screening, the Jameson Cult Film Club promises to transport the audience right into the murky world of criminal mastermind Keyser Söze for an unforgettable viewing experience. The venue, a safe house located on ‘San Pedro Pier’, is only revealed to ticket holders and will be completely transformed into a series of sets from the movie. Live theatre and special effects timed perfectly with on-screen action will also help to create an electric atmosphere throughout the screening.

The greatest trick the devil ever played was convincing the world that he didn’t exist, so don’t miss the opportunity to watch this heist classic, voted best movie plot twist by IMDB, on the big screen. If you don’t want to be left out of the line-up, register now for free tickets on www.jamesoncultfilmclub.ie.

Following the screening, the party will continue in true Jameson style with DJ Aidan Kelly taking to the decks while guests enjoy ‘Kobayashi’ Burgers and Jameson, Ginger and Lime long drinks.

Top Picks from the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival, 2014

All right, it’s that time of the year again, when your humble host looks at the tea leaves and points to some of the highlights of the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival, when the movies take over Dublin city for ten days between the 13th and 23rd of February. The schedule was unveiled today, and although I’ve yet to actually see any of these, I have picked out some of the more interesting and intriguing selections for the festival.

Tickets go on sale at 10am tomorrow morning, so consider this an attempt to point those Irish cinephiles in the right direction.

Photos from the Jameson Cult Film Snatch (Cork) Screening…

Hi,

Just a quick one to start the week. The guys over at the Jameson Cult Film Club sent on some photos from their Cork screening of Snatch last week. I wasn’t able to attend, but I hear it was a good night for all involved. Anyway, I thought I’d share the pictures, and remind any film fans reading that the tickets are given away free to members who join via their website, here. Anyway, I hope everybody who went along enjoyed it, and congratulations to the team on taking the show on the road.
