I’ll probably have a more well thought out reaction tomorrow, but woot! My brother owes me €10!
Other than that though, didn’t this seem like the most predictable Oscars ever, with the acting categories all sewn up even before nominations were announced? Still, great to see Mo’Nique and Christoph Waltz win. I particularly liked Mo’Nique’s confirmation it could be “about the performance and not the politics” – though I’m cynical enough to see her season-long disengagement as a calculated political move, it still made me smile.

Can’t say I think The Hurt Locker deserved best film but you’re totally right – a very predictable year for the Oscars – the only ones I got wrong were Best Film and Best Actress because I wanted to have my say and proclaim them as winners!
I’m actually quite pleased with The Hurt Locker winning. It isn’t my favourite nominee (it’s not as good as Up or Inglourious Basterds, two of my favourite films of the year), but I can live with it. At least it wasn’t Avatar.
Exactly Darren, at least it wasn’t Avatar! I’m pissed that Inglourious Basterds got NOTHING. Not even Original script…
I guess I really can’t complain overall. The only thing I am bitter about is Sandra Bullock winning Best Actress and the lack of awards for Inglourious Basterds.
Yeah, I was hoping it would pick up the screenplay win at least – though being honest, I think that it definitely deserved at least one nomination in the Supporting Actress category.
Ah well, at least we have Waltz…
To be honest, I would have been happy to see Avatar to win but fact is that I didn’t think Hurt Locker or Avatar should have won. Inglourious Basterds was definitely my film of 2009, it absolutely deserved original script.
…Well ok, maybe I did like A Single Man more than IB but I only saw that this year and it wasn’t nominated so doesn’t really count…
Haven’t seen A Single Man yet, heard it’s excellent though.
And Inglourious Basterds was my favourite film of last year, but I think the Hurt Locker was the most likely winner I was most fond of, if that makes sense. Like a perfect storm or a false compromise.
