Hey, Ive just been nominated for some kind of meme-related blogging award by the rather excellent Ruth over on Flix Chatter. Thanks Ruth!
Anyway, as per usual, it comes with a set of meme-related instructions. The first of which is to provide seven facts about yourself. I’m going to try not to repeat myself, but there may be some overlap with the last such list of facts I published:
- I can’t spell. Seriously, read the blog – there are typos everywhere! But I kinda like it that way – damn English language telling me how to write! No, I kinda wish I was better at it, but such is life. Hopefully you’ll see it as an endearing foible.
- I like ordering DVDs before they are released, because then I forget about them and effectively receive random presents from myself in the post. There’s nothing like receiving a package you weren’t expecting to make your day.
- As much as I may pretend to be witty and insightful and deep and intelligent, I’m actually entirely shallow and easily impressed by the rule of cool. To reflect this, my two most anticipated films remaining this year are Inception and The Expendables.
- I love Edgar Allen Poe. Seriously, the man’s writing is amazing. My girlfriend loaned me a book three years ago, and hasn’t got it back. If I were ever to produce a movie, it would bring together several different directors for an anthology-style adaptation of his work, with stuff like stop-motion segments, black-and-white, encouraged abstract-style filming.
- My favourite musician is David Bowie. There’s just something about his chameleon-esque ability to shift and change depending on his circumstances and his capacity to succeed at whatever he sets his mind to. He’s also just incredibly cool and has the sexiest voice in the world.
- I used to design posters in college. I’m really, really proud of that. I even won a few little awards for it, but it was really cool. The best thing anyone ever said to me was that they looked like movie posters. And that was meant as an insult.
So now I have to tag fifteen other bloggers – I’m afraid I don’t quite have that in me, so here’s nine:
- Ross v. Ross
- Four of Them
- Never Mind Pop Film
- The List
- Andrew @ The Cinema
- Encore’s World of Film & TV
- Paragraph Film Reviews
- The Pompous Film Snob
- Blog Cabins

Thank you good sir. I will partake. I was thinking of having a blog contribution on my blog. What’s your favorite trailer and why. Would you like to join in? M. Carter is down!
Count me in. I’ll drop you a mail.
I’m looking forward to The Expendables too. I yearn for the days of 80s action hero type films with things like stunts and explosions as opposed to computer generated stuff.
Yep. Even if the CGI is so good that you can’t tell the difference, it just feels different watching live stunts as opposed to CGI. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s the uncanny valley or something.
Thanks, Darren. I will do this this weekend when my day job is complete… too bad you took alot of people I was going to send it to…. haha!
I know, did you see Ruth’s list? She stole like a tonne of mine as well!
another meme? great.
Yep, they are getting a bit much at this stage. I figure it’s rude not to pass it on, but I figure it’s your choice if you want to do it (and I don’t think it’s unreasonable for someone not to – I’m close to memed out).
Thanks for the tag, Darren.
I like the idea of no.2 – I get that same joy out of texting Any Questions Answered, forgetting that I texted them and then getting a nugget of information later that day.
I’m antcipating Jane Eyre. I’m not sure what that says about me. Oh, and Fassbender in X-Men should be pretty damn interesting.
As for Edgar Allen Poe – Excellent choice. If you’re ever passing by the Crawford Art Gallery in Cork, it holds the Harry Clarke Room, which contains original illustrations from “Tales of Mystery and Imagination” – The National Gallery of Ireland shop has some great Edgar Allan Poe editions too. I love some of the Tell Tale Heart animations on Youtube. I remember seeing footage of Michael Gambon reciting the Tell Tale Heart some years back, but unfortunately I haven’t been able to track it down since. It’s something I wish I had recorded at the time. The only thing about Edgar Allan Poe is that every time I hear his name, I see Vincent Price’s face. It’s like when I think of Harry Clarke, I often pair him with Edward Gorey.
I think most people are entirely shallow, but with the odd outburst of creativity and depth 🙂
Fassbender may just make me forgive them for not using McKellen.
Oh dear. A little lengthy in text aren’t we, Róisín.
Better too much to say than not enough.
I like surprises too. I did a prediction type World Cup sweepstake at work but I handed in my original copy of my predictions without getting a photocopy. I could walk upstairs to editorial and get it… but like I said, I like to be surprised. It’s been smiley, happy so far but I predict a sharp fall in fortune in the next round. I had France to get to the semi-finals.
They’ve imploded, haven’t they? I don’t know – whether as a “patriotically bitter” Irish man – that makes me feel better or worse, though.
